Great South Run Diary

We've decided to run in the Great South Run this year raising money for Cancer Research. This is a cause close to all our lives, we hope that you enjoy our blog and donate generously.

We've just registered to run, so training is only just starting. We plan to train up to a distance of 14 miles, even though the race distance is 10, this should give us a comfortable level of fitness and enable us to achieve our target time of 1 hour and 30 minutes!

If you like what you see then please visit our Just Giving page and make a donation today.

Sophie Augu
Managing Director of August Clarke, a regular runner in the 'Race For Live' Southampton and Newcastle events. Running is my favourite sport although this will be my longest distance. A keen spin enthusiast, I should be able to keep up with the boys in this race.

Having seen first hand the devastation that cancer causes it seemed obvious to choose Cancer Research as our charity. Running 10 miles is unconquered territory for me and a big challenge so I hope you will dig deep and donate generously in your support.

John McGurk
Cancer has recently effected me through my family and friends, so I feel an emotional need to contribute to the ongoing research, to find a cure for this disease.

I am a very sporting kind of guy, passionate about football I would consider myself to be average with regards to fitness. This will be my first run but as I am very competitive I am hoping to do well. Originally i I signed up without knowing the distance, however once I have got over the fact it's a 10 mile run, I have to admit I am a excited to be in a position to test myself.

The only thing I would consider to be hurdle for me is the fact I have smaller legs, so have to run twice as far as the average Joe. (As this has already been pointed out to me by my fellow team members)

Renaud Clarke
A previous marathon runner I love my sport, including spinning, football, badminton and squash. I am really relishing the opportunity to run in another competitive event. I enjoy blogging and will be our Facebook blog, including videos and images and all sorts of GPS tech

I'm running because I don't want to grow old and get cancer. If I can help to be a part of preventing that, then all the better. I'm still young enough to put in some good lap times, so try and stop me. I'm built for endurance sports, and have done the London Marathon. I'm hoping I can be of some help to the August Clarke Team to achieve our goals and have some fun, raising money for an excellent cause.

I am delighted, as a non- employee, to have been invited to join the August Clarke crew on their plight to support this outstanding charity. I have always had tremendous respect for those that have had to battle with this horrid disease, their families, and also for those that do whatever they can time after time to continue supporting the search for a cure.

So, in order to offer a small contribution, I too am joining the team and will be fully engaged in this fun and very worthwhile event. For those that know me well, you will appreciate that this level of exercise is unchartered territory, so please help me to help August Clarke to help those that need it most by donating what you can.

Thanks for your support :)
