Team August Clarke - Training Update 1

It's been a busy few weeks especially with the Easter bank holiday. I think we've all mentally prepared ourselves for our training programs, it's now a question of building up to our individual milestones and keeping ourselves focused (just like we do with recruitment).

We're planning to shoot a video, Ben our guest runner is a big fan of Rocky so we're going to shoot our own version of the Rocky training video 'Eye Of The Tiger'. More of that once we've planned our Southampton locations and picked who's running what.

So to keep you all up-to-date with our progress we'll post up a report of the first few weeks from each runner below:

Initially, I started with a couple of jogs with some spin class and 5-a-side. Burnt myself out a bit and had to take the bank holiday off. Played footy last night, I think I'm comfortable with around 4miles at the moment, but as I've done long distances before, I should be in a good position to climb fast to 6 in the next couple of weeks.

I have had to work hard for this, as I only started running at the beginning of this Year. Back in January I downloaded a 5k app, which basically started me off running a minute and then walking a minute. That seems like such a long time ago. Blessed with lighter evenings now, I have been exploring the Wiltshire countryside, and am now running just over 7miles trying to keep within the 10min/mile time frame. In fact, this weekend I will be extending my route by a further 1.5 miles – still very much work in progress though. “Eye of the Tiger Man, Eye of the Tiger”

Off to get some new running shoes at the weekend to keep me going! Fundraising is off to a good start :-) I have had a slow start due to a lingering cold but have managed to get a few 3 -4 mile runs out. This week it all begins, I am aiming to get up to 6.

I have just started my training, I was confident that my fitness was relatively good as I have just finished my football season, however I went for my first run last week and ran for 2.58 miles which now, looking at what everyone else has done, I feel as if I need to step it up a bit. With this in mind I have decided to cut down the alcohol I consume to nothing. As of week starting Monday 16th April my training has stepped up immensely.
